School-wide Positive Behavior Support Team Training Manual

Schedule

Training Schedule

Sample Agenda

School-wide PBS training typically is done by experienced trainers working with multiple coaches and teams. Many different training schedules have been used effectively. The major features of successful School-wide PBS training are:

1. Training occurs with at least 3 formal events per year over a two-three year period (36 hours of training during Year One).

2. The training of school-wide teams always includes training and support for a “coach” who is trained with, and provides monthly support for the team.

3. Training includes active instruction on the collection and use of evaluation data for decision-making.

4. Training focuses on (a) Main ideas, (b) specific practices that affect student behavior, and (c) the systems that support effective practices.

5. Training materials include active reference to the research basis for recommendations.

6. School teams are encouraged to adapt School-wide PBS practices and procedures to fit the culture, challenges, and strengths of their local school/community.

The Training Manual provides sessions organized around four days of training. Trainers using the material are encouraged to add additional content and extend the number of days of training. Trainers are discouraged from delivering Year One School-wide PBS training in less than 36 hours (four days) of contact.
